Exim Bank Tanzania has donated 50 desks worth more than 4m/- to Mapinduzi ‘A’ Primary School in Shinyanga region, as part of efforts to address inadequate facilities in the nation’s education sector.

Speaking during the handover ceremony held at the school premises in Shinyanga recently, Exim Bank Shinyanga Branch Manager, Mr. Emmanuel Nkelebe said the bank’s move was meant to supplement the government efforts in creating favorable learning environment in the country.

He said his bank has always been a foot forward in subsidizing the government efforts in bringing greater results in the educational sector.

“Our intentions are based on the fact that education is the foundation of any society and therefore very essential in the socio-economic development of every nation and if the education system is neglected of basic facilities to make pupils comfortable in learning, then it would not have achieved its real meaning,” he said.

Acknowledging the generous donation, the school’s headteacher, Savera Rwabuyongo, thanked the bank for the gesture saying the desks came at the right time and was a great relief as it would help a great deal in reducing the shortage of desks the school is currently facing.

She said the school has 816 pupils including 342 boys and 474 girls with 278 desks and they are still in need of 93 extra desks.

Representing his fellow pupils, Mussa Peter extended sincere thanks to the bank. He said: “It reached a point we considered school to be jail. We even started to get back pain from the long hours spent sitting on the dusty floors. This donation will now help us to learn more comfortably sitting behind desks and the learning process will now be more exciting”.
